In honor of Women’s History Month, Jazzway presents the Baltimore Women in Jazz Collective. If you were fortunate enough to see this group in June 2019 at the Baltimore Father’s Day Jazz Fest you’ll understand how exciting this dynamic group is, and will not want to miss this event. If you didn’t, this will be your opportunity to see this spectacular group of musicians for the first time. They will be performing jazz standards and many of their original tunes! The Jazzway Holiday Show! Warren Wolf-Claus Celebrates the Holidays with special guest vocalist, Imani Grace Cooper
Is there anything more joyful than a Wolf-Claus Holiday? Maybe... but not many holiday events will be this much fun! Baltimore based and internationally acclaimed vibraphonist, Warren Wolf brings enormous holiday cheer to Jazzway 6004 with his unique retooling of everyone’s favorite tunes of the season. Popular DC area vocalist Imani Grace Cooper joins him, along with Alex Brown on piano, Jeff Reed on bass and Quincy Phillips on drums! A great way to get into the holiday spirit. All tickets include complimentary soft drinks (soda and water), entry in a raffle, and an elegant dessert, fruit and cheese buffet, post-concert. She’s headlined venues such as the Apollo Theater and The John F. Kennedy Center For Performing Arts as well as shared band stands with artists such as George Duke, Dianne Reeves, Terri Lyne Carrington Esperanza Spalding and Geri Allen. Imani-Grace performs regularly in the nation’s capital but has played venues across the world such as Quincy Jones’s listening room, Qʼs Lounge and Bar in Dubai, UAE as vocalist for the Justin Kauflin Quartet as well as Cuba’s own Jazz Lounge with bassist Mike Bowie. Imani-Grace performs weekly in worship at the Washington National Cathedral as a lead vocalist for the cathedral’s jazz band.

Please join us for an early evening concert in September with songs spanning a variety of genres, including opera, art songs, spirituals, and musical theater. Soprano, Nina Anderson in collaboration with pianist Ying-Shan Su will be presenting this program to prepare for Nina’s upcoming graduate school auditions. The songs will feature works by Poulenc, Mozart, Gershwin, H.T. Burleigh, Florence Price, Hale Smith, Jerome Kern, and Kurt Weill. All the concert proceeds will go to the musicians. There will be a reception after the concert with complimentary homemade desserts, gourmet cheeses, fresh fruit and light appetizers. No tickets at the door. Bio’s: Nina Anderson is just finishing her junior year as a vocal performance major and French minor at the University of Maryland. In February 2019, Ms. Anderson was awarded First Place in the National Society of Arts and Letters Winston Voice Scholarship Competition. In spring of 2018, she was a finalist in the George Shirley Vocal Competition for African American Vocal Repertoire, and she will be returning to the George Shirley competition on May 17th of this year. In high school, Ms. Anderson was chosen to participate in both the Lyric Opera camp (where she was voted best singer) and in the Washington National Opera Camp. She has won or placed in numerous vocal competitions from 2017 to 2019. Ms. Anderson has been active in the University of Maryland’s Opera Terps, where her past roles have included Lady Angela in Gilbert & Sullivan’s “Patience”, The Plaintiff in Gilbert & Sullivan’s “Trial by Jury” and Laurette in Bizet’s “Doctor Miracle”. This spring Ms. Anderson is performing the roles of Joan and Grace Davis in Kurt Weill’s “Street Scene” with the Maryland Opera Studio. This summer, she will be studying and performing as part of the Spotlight on Opera Program in Shreveport, Louisiana. Ms. Anderson is a member of the University of Maryland Chamber Singers and is a student of Martha Randall. She is currently applying to graduate school programs in Philadelphia, PA, Houston, TX, Cincinnati, OH, New Haven, CT, Los Angeles, CA, Ann Arbor, MI and Bloomington, IN. Taiwanese pianist, Ying-Shan Su is a third year doctoral student in Collaborative Piano under Professor Rita Sloan at the University of Maryland. After serving as a staff accompanist at Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee, she devoted herself to piano collaborating. Ms. Su holds two Master’s degrees in Piano Performance from Lee University, National Chiao Tung University and a Bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance from National Taiwan Normal University. She received the Young Musician Award Scholarship from Lee University, where she studied with Ning An and Gloria Chien.
