What a great way to close Jazz Appreciation April. Marianne Solivan and her trio were finger snapping (on the 2nd and 4th) toe tapping engaging. Guest, Irene Jalenti, added spice with her duet, and a solo reminding me of Astrud Gilberto. The hosts and after show treats topped a great evening. And, I won Marianne's CD!!!

Just a big thank you for hosting the Craig Alston show. It was the first time that my wife and I ever attended one of your events and it was absolutely fabulous. Such a warm cozy venue, terrific top notch music and then to be seated among a super friendly audience, it was perfect. We were pleasantly surprised on how comfortable we felt in what was a unknown environment for us, but the warm friendly greeting at the front door quickly set the relaxed tone of the evening for us. Hearing the music live was better than any recording and your sound system was set in perfect volume for the room. The seasonal tunes jazz style really rocked and they honestly enhanced our holiday season experience this year. I can't think of a better way to kick off the holidays than a Jazzway 6004 show. We will be back for more shows and the next time we will be inviting some of our friends to join us. Hope to see another Jazzway6004 real soon. Thank you, Andy & Linda

Comment: Marianne & Howard thanks for hosting the John Lamkin quartet featuring Jimmy Green. The concert was fabulous. I invited a friend, Janice Stewart to attend as well and she had a ball. She purchased the artist drawing of the performance. Your home, the venue is so warm and inviting. Again my appreciation for the evening.

The Tim Warfield Holiday Concert was high quality jazz as promised and those olde Christmas tunes never sounded so good, with Tim's arrangements and the intimate venue. The lovely Joanna Pascale gave a sultry vocal performance while local great Cyrus Chestnut on piano was extraordinary. Marianne brought down the house with a lovely rendition of, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. All great stuff & great musicians many thanks to Marianne and Howard for putting this together.

My first visit was 6/11/11 for Warren Wolf, and I hope not the last. Warren's a great performer and had a great band. I knew about Jeremy Pelt, but when Tim Green--somebody I had never heard of before--joined for the last tune the level of music, already high, took off even higher. A memorable evening of music for those lucky Baltimoreans who were there.

We had many missed opportunities that later became historically altering events; such as the Beatles, Elvis, and Coltrane with Curtis Fuller in concert. Jazzway provides a rare "second chance." Not only did Howard and Marianne's fortunate guests hear Curtis Fuller in an intimate "living room" setting, they were treated to a "stagefull" of consummate musicians! What a memorable experience. Don't miss the next concert and an opportunity to hear Marianne's vocal and interpretive talent.

Oh what a special treat we enjoyed tonight- Shelia Jordan’s “Voice and Bass”, with the smooth Cameron Brown, was so warm and entertaining, funny and sharp, covering so many classics with wit and charm. Quite the show-woman, Shelia sings and improvises like no other-it was a moving performance to behold and witness a true piece of jazz history. Shelia helps us to imagine those early days with Charlie Parker and the band. With great respect she honors jazz history and tradition, especially of those greats that passed way too soon. Her message to emerging musicians is to persevere and, “never, never, never give up”, as she has done. A special guest duet with Jay Clayton added a sassy musical repartee and loving combination as each imitated and complimented the other. Likewise, a cameo by Todd Marcus on Clarinet added another fine dimension to the delightful evening soiree. Where else can you have such an intimate atmosphere and be so up close and personal with the artists. The gourmet diner and desserts completed a perfect evening. Kudos to Marianne and Howard for making this all possible.

My wife and I went to our first show at Jazzway last night where we saw Tim Warfield, Nicholas Payton and Joanna Pascale. The jazz, food and people were great but the most amazing thing was the venue. I am still blown away by all this. Just absolutely amazing! We can't wait until next month.

We thoroughly enjoyed the Susan Jones Quartet and the great Jazzway 6004 venue. We were amazed at how well Marianne fit in with the Quartet on her vocal set. As first-timers we were made to feel very comfortable by Howard and Marianne. We especially liked the visits by Bessie as she made her rounds. The dinner was terrific and exceeded our expectations. Thanks for a great evening.

The concert on Oct 17,2008 was outstanding. Marianne's voice is amazing and the jazz muicians were wonderful. I am not sure whether Marianne should devote herself to singing or cooking since the food was as "4 star" as the music. Howard and Marianne are gracious hosts and adorable Betsy was the perfect additional group member.

I attend many concerts featuring local and national acts. But for the best personal musical experience, nothing compares to Jazzway. The music, menu, patrons and of course the hosts, are the best. Marianne and Howard, Thank you!

Marianne and Howard, Once again, you've made a very special night of great music, people, food, and good vibes in your home. Thanks also for the special celebration! Lafayette Gilchrist and Carl Grubbs and the entire ensemble (not to mention Marianne!), hard to beat. Jazzway, to me, is the quintessential great jazz night out. Your efforts are appreciated—thank you!

What am amazing experience at the Craig Alston concert on Jan 26th! This was my first time at a house concert. There is no comparison to attending a commercial concert. This venue was like visiting friends at a social event! People were friendly and very attentive to the performances. Thank you Howard and Marianne for opening your beautiful home for these events. About the music - unbelievable - it was top quality! The talent of all the musicians was excellent! I really don't have enough adjectives to describe how good they were!

I can't tell you how much I enjoyed the "last concert" of the Park House Jam on December 15th! Like Howard says, you should plan a "last concert" every 6 months! Marianne, the food was delicious! I don't know how you do it. Howard, you are such a gracious host. I feel like family (although your family won't tell me how to get to the parking lot in front!). Wishing you a healthy and joyful 2008!

Dear Folks, Thanks for the great jazz on Saturday evening, both the instrumental and especially the vocals. The UJE is an exceptional group either playing as an ensemble or backing a singer. Carolyn and I really enjoyed the meal and the wine and were lucky enough to snag a portion of the bread pudding – Yum! Sincerely, Bob Godesky and Carolyn Foster

All I can say is "WOW!" When you come to a concert you expect the performers, singers and musicians, to be top rate. That expectation was certainly satisfied. The unexpected piece was the venue. Intimate, warm, welcoming barely begins the list of adjectives that describe the house and especially the host and hostess. My first time there, and I felt like I was visiting with life long friends. My wife and I actually only knew the people we came with, but we quickly met other interesting and engaging people. We knew there was going to be food and we weren't expecting a culinary masterpiece, but it was pretty darn close. All in all, we had a marvelous time and would certainly recommend it to all our friends. Best of luck to Howard and Marianne, and thank you for bringing this idea and venue to life. There's nothing commercial about a concert at 6004!

Please donate to Jazzway 6004

Our concerts have high overhead costs.  We incur the same amount in music licensing fees and insurance that larger commercial venues incur, but we wish to sustain a high payout to musicians along with hospitality amenities they often don't get elsewhere.  Because of these high standards, almost all of our concerts operate at a loss. And there are few operating costs grants available for venues our size.

In order to continue to bring you these wonderful concerts without lowering the benefits to the musicians, please consider making a tax deductible donation to Jazzway.  Any donation, large or small will be much appreciated and will help us to retain our high standards.

Thanks! Howard & Marianne
